Designs for Living Inc., a design corporation providing services to residential, commercial and industrial clients around the world, was formed in 1959 and has offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Palm Beach, Florida.

Designs for Living has had projects with such prestigious companies as Rolls Royce in England, Raython in Saudi Arabia, and the Dreyfus Building in New York City. Local projects have included the Amway Grand Plaza and innumerable residential housing projects in Michigan.

The name Israels was attached to the Corporate name in 1971, when the corporation became both design and supply company. This change allowed the corporation to have the ability to provide full service to the client. The company grew in both aspects, and in 1977 opened a retail establishment in the historic Spencer Duffy Furniture Exhibition Building at 226 Pearl N.W. Through years of renovation, the building is put back into the original quality it had in the 1886s when it was used to exhibit furniture.

Israels has continued to grow at a rapid pace, mostly due to the wonderful asset it possesses in having good people working at the company. The corporate philosophy puts the customer as king, and we look forward to serving them every day. Israels has targeted its products to high quality items, so that customers can enjoy them for years to come.

This philosophy created the need for a new division. This division is called DFL Agency. This agency/division manufactures product, sells supplies and manages projects. We manufacture custom pieces of furniture in both upholstering and case goods, and haves made both prototype and functional furniture.

This innovative division gives us limitless resources in creating furniture for our client’s needs. Some custom creations have gone to the Amway Peter Island resort, Ann Murray, the VanderBilts, and numerous furniture corporations. Custom sample pieces are displayed nationwide in wholesale showroom and retail stores.

Israels, The Other Store is an outlet store. It has over 60,000 square feet of warehouse display space and products are sold at reduced prices. This outlet allows every client the ability to afford finer furniture due to its low overhead and limited selection.

Israels 28th Street Retail Store opened in 1995. It offers a vast selection of moderate to upper price point furniture brands in over 35,000 square feet of showroom. We have just Re-Merchandised our product line for this location to be specifically chosen for value, attention to detail and improved delivery on special orders.

In the fall of 2003 our Pearl Street location was purchased to be incorporated as part of the site for a new hotel to meet the needs of Grand Rapids New Convention Center. Since then, we have moved into one of the former John Widdicomb Furniture Company Buildings at 601 Fifth Street N.W. This new 80,000 square foot facility will serve as West Michigan's Largest Design Center and our Corporate Offices. At our Design Center you can expect to find premier, upper price point, furniture brands with the highest level of detail and quality.
